4 Tips for Taking Care of Your Vinyl Window Frames

If you have recently invested in vinyl windows for your home, which is a great way to save energy and have appealing looking windows, you will want to know what you can do to ensure that they stay looking beautiful. Here are four tips for taking care of your vinyl windows:

  1. Clean the Frames: One of the biggest benefits of vinyl windows is that they are very easy to maintain. However, you still should clean them at least once or twice a year. It's important to do this in order to prevent discoloration of the frames. You can wash the frames with mild soap and wipe them clean with a soft cloth that won't scratch the surface. Once you wash with soap, be sure to thoroughly rinse with water, which will ensure that there is no soapy residue leftover.
  2. Clean the Tracks: To ensure that your vinyl windows continue to function properly, you will want to clean the tracks so that they do not become worn and so that the windows do not become jammed. Dirty and debris-filled tracks will make the windows more difficult to open and close. On top of this, clean tracks will also prevent damage to the weatherstripping, which keeps the windows as energy efficient as possible. You can clean the tracks with mild soap and water, as well.
  3. Lubricate the Moving Parts: All the moving parts of the window need to be lubricated regularly with window lubricant that you can purchase at your local hardware store. This will ensure that the parts do not start to get jammed with dirt. Once this happens, you may need to replace the moving parts.
  4. Don't Clean in the Sun: When cleaning the windows, don't do it in the sun. When you clean in the sun, the window dries too quickly and will leave both water and soap marks that you will just have to clean later when it becomes cooler outside. You also don't want to clean in the sun because the vinyl can become discolored if it's left to dry in the sun.

When you utilize these four tips for taking care of your vinyl windows, you can be sure that they last for a much longer period of time. This is important for ensuring quality energy efficiency in your home all year round. You will save on energy bills and be as comfortable in your home as possible.
